What's Your Why?
his week it was my privilege to graphic record the New Mexico Literacy Conference where 800 educators came together to share insights and information about creating equity in literacy.
In addition to graphic recording inspiring keynote speakers, I also created a Knowledge Wall using the prompt question “What’s Your Why?” More specifically, Why did you get into education, stay in education and what are qualities of teachers who inspired you?
As you can see from this graphic, common themes were about making a difference in the lives of children and to help them to become future leaders. Teachers who believed in them and made them feel valued were other common themes.
Being a teacher isn’t easy, so remembering your why on tough days can be a powerful tool to stay focused and press on. And I think this is true for all of us.
Why did you get into your career?
What keeps you in it?
Do you have a mentor you might want to thank? Do they have qualities you could adopt to help younger people in your field?
These questions gave me pause and also made me feel rejuvenated about this career I have and love. I hope it does the same for you!
